Mission Statement
Women of Color strives to uplift, educate, and unite the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s campus on the achievements and contributions of ALL WOMEN OF Color. We also work hand in hand with the community of Urbana-Champaign to ensure the benefits and education we receive as University students are reinvested in the community we serve. We understand the need for the community we occupy at the University of Illinois, so Women of Color fosters unity in maintaining the individuality, self-expression, and authenticity of women of color.
Our Founders
In 1989, Collette Cummings and Frances D. Graham, two Resident Directors at the University of Illinois decided that a program was needed to highlight African American women. They believed that this program should recognize the achievements and the needs of black women on campus as well as in the surrounding community.
